White Night: Magazine in a Night

As part of Melbourne’s White Night festival on Saturday 21 February, The Emerging Writers’ Festival and the folks at The Lifted Brow are teaming up to make a special, one-off magazine in a night. The magazine will be constructed live in The Wheeler Centre performance space, edited and designed on stage from 7pm-7am, and then published free as a PDF on Sunday 22 February, ready for you to read and print off at home.

As well as hosting this wild magazine experiment, the Wheeler Centre will be joined by exciting guests throughout the night. Come in to watch interviews and readings with two exciting international authors, as well as conversations with comic artists and graphic designers as they create their work live on stage. There will also be a free zine-making workshop with Cameron Baker (Mote) to get you into the spirit of things, plus a DJ set from Martin King (The Harpoons, Oscar + Martin) to get your creative juices and/or leg muscles going!

Drop by The Wheeler Centre on the night to chat to editors, artists, designers and writers about their work, or submit your own! Across the night, a live writing space and submissions box will be open where anyone can contribute short, themed works to the magazine in process. Every hour, a new theme will be offered for your creative response. If you can’t make it on the night, play along from home – we’ll be opening up digital submissions for short works every hour! With the production and design process projected live on screen, audiences will be given an insight into the madness that goes into producing a publication. BYO slumber party vibes.
